Verisign Bundle Protects Service Providers From DDoS Attacks

By Matthew Graven

Verisign has announced a new service bundle designed to protect businesses against costly downtime caused by malicious attacks. Here’s some background for service providers seeking protection from DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks.

The new Verisign Uptime Bundle combines:

  • Verisign Managed DNS – A cloud-based hosting service that features DNS resolution with a 100% SLA.

  • Verisign Internet Defense Network  – A monitoring solution that detects that prevents DDoS attacks by blocking malicious traffic.

  • Verisign iDefense Security Intelligence Services  –  A 24/7 resource for cyber threat intelligence.

According to Ben Petro, senior vice president of the Verisign Network Intelligence and Availability Business:

“Businesses can no longer rely on a single line of defense to ensure the availability of web sites and applications under all conditions.  Our multi-layered solution offers the best way to detect and disarm an attack before substantial losses occur.”

In the March 28 announcement, VeriSign touted that the new bundle will allow online businesses and cloud-based solution providers to deploy scalable protection for what many companies charge for DNS hosting alone. Available in four levels of service, ranging from $495 per month to $4,995 per month, the highest priced Elite Package provides protection of up to 5000 domains.

All four levels of service provide mitigation of two DDoS attacks and real-time email updates about security risks.
