TeamViewer has released a software development kit (SDK) that is designed to allow mobile application developers to integrate remote support functionality into their apps.

Tampa, Florida-based remote control software provider TeamViewer has released a software development kit (SDK)  designed to allow mobile application developers to integrate remote support functionality into their apps.

TeamViewer said its new SDK is compatible with Android, iOS 7 and iOS 8 and provides real-time screen sharing.

“We have noticed an increased need for high-quality customer service directly within an app,” a TeamViewer spokesperson told MSPmentor. “Real-time screen sharing of possibly any iOS and Android app helps to improve [app] usability immensely.”

The SDK enables users who require assistance to tap on a help button that is integrated within the app to generate a support request and automatically notify the appropriate parties.

This kit also allows a support team to see exactly what the user is viewing in real-time, provide live assistance or take control of the app.

“As more businesses go mobile and develop apps to interact with their users, there’s an increased need to ensure remote IT support and high-quality customer service,” Kornelius Brunner, TeamViewer’s head of product management, said in a prepared statement. “Using TeamViewer’s iPhone, iPad and Android compatible SDK, support teams can now easily access these apps remotely and resolve issues quickly and effectively.”

The software provider added the SDK is ideal for business-to-business (B2B) apps, apps that run in kiosk mode and consumer apps that might require remote assistance.

TeamViewer eyes the mobile apps market

TeamViewer’s SDK could have long-lasting effects on the mobile apps market.

The SDK can be used to develop integrations for free, and TeamViewer noted the kit could help it extend its presence in the mobile apps market as well.

“We are quite positive about the long-term impact of the SDK. The mobile apps market grows rapidly; in fact, it’s one of the fastest-growing industries. The SDK can help TeamViewer to extend and strengthen our presence in the mobile market,” a TeamViewer spokesperson said. “Customers on the other side are able to enhance customer satisfaction by offering new ways of supporting their own apps. This gives them a competitive advantage.”

TeamViewer’s screen-sharing SDK for mobile apps is available for download here.
