TeamDrive 3.0: Counters DropBox Cloud Storage Service at CeBIT
At the CeBIT trade show in Hannover, Germany, cloud synchronization provider TeamDrive launched its new client platform, TeamDrive 3.0. It seems to be positioned against DropBox, a rival shared storage service. Designed for the security of mobile access of cloud data, TeamDrive 3.0 adds secure clients for Apple iOS, Android, along with the existing Mac, PC, and Linux secure clients. It also has improvements to its base technology, such as RSA-2048 encryption for sharing files on a TeamDrive Space.
TeamDrive’s approach to cloud storage for the enterprise is highly secure, meaning all data is encrypted on a customer’s computer before uploading. Unlike similar cloud synchronization tools, businesses can use TeamDrive with the server of their choice, whether it is private or public cloud, TeamDrive’s cloud or on-premise. Instead of being compelled to adopt a public cloud, customers can use TeamDrive to run their own private service with the contents remaining completely under their own control, on proprietary and company-managed servers.
The company notes:
“TeamDrive’s iPhone and iPad apps are in the final stages of testing and will be live in the App Store in March. Android and iOS customers should register on the TeamDrive website to receive an email as soon as the apps are available in Android Market or the Apple App Store: http://www.teamdrive.com/teamdrive3. Support for Blackberry and Windows Mobile Phones will be available this summer.”
Added Volker Oboda, CEO of TeamDrive:
“The issue around BYOD is in fact LYOD. Our new smart phone apps will make it easy for enterprises to implement Bring Your Own Device policies without worrying about employee Losing Their Own Device incidents. TeamDrive customer Dr. Anthony Beck, research fellow in the School of Computing at the University of Leeds, said he chose TeamDrive over DropBox because TeamDrive is Safe Harbor compliant, allowing everything to be maintained on his own servers.
