StillSecure NAC Gets Mobile Management to Tackle BYOD Trend

More news to bring you on the mobile device management (MDM) front, one of the most in-demand managed services of 2012. This time it’s StillSecure, the managed network security provider, that’s getting into the MDM game.

StillSecure has released version 6.0 of StillSecure Safe Access, the most recent version of its network access control (NAC) solution for the enterprise. And the most significant change is a new mobile management function that allows enterprise IT departments to include identification and enforcement capabilities on personal mobile devices that employees are bringing onto company networks.

“StillSecure understand the challenges that IT administrators face given the burgeoning bring-your-own-device-to-work trend,” StillSecure CTO James Brown said in a prepared statement. “For enterprises that support an increasing mobile staff who often need access to work via their personal devices, StillSecure provides access and monitoring capabilities for thousands of those devices to ensure a company’s most critical data remains protected.”

Safe Access, according to StillSecure, will now give enterprise IT departments the solution they need to both identify mobile devices brought on to networks and control how those devices are being used in order to keep employees on task. No more games, literally. Safe Access 6.0 allows administrators to find devices, game systems, printers and VoIP phones, and then decide whether to allow or deny access.

This latest development from StillSecure stems from the company’s recent partnership with Hostway Corp., a web hosting and cloud hosting service provider. When the two signed their agreement in early December 2009, both sides said they would focus on giving businesses a broader range of network security services and options. And sure enough, an MDM solution has sprung up as part of the Safe Access platform just three months later. Look for more StillSecure developments around Safe Access and Cloud SMS as a result of this partnership.
