New AVG North America Channel Chief Marco La Vecchia left will report to Luke Walling VP SMB Sales and Operations North America right

SolarWinds/N-able Veteran Joins AVG As North America Channel Chief

  • Written by Joe Panettieri 1

AVG Technologies has hired Marco La Vecchia as VP, North America channels. La Vecchia joins AVG from SolarWinds' (SWI) N-able Technologies division. The career move is a new chapter in the old Level Platforms vs N-able RMM software wars.

AVG Technologies has hired N-able Technologies sales veteran Marco La Vecchia, naming him VP of channels, North America. La Vecchia will join AVG on Aug. 15. The move comes as the former Level Platforms (now owned by AVG) and N-able (now owned by SolarWinds) both strive to accelerate momentum under new ownership.

La Vecchia most recently led N-able’s sales operation for North America. At AVG, he will report to Luke Walling, VP SMB Sales and Operations, North America. La Vecchia and his team will be responsible for driving new business and accelerating the growth of AVG’s combined SMB Software as a Service Services business – AVG CloudCare, Managed Workplace, Network Operations Centre and Helpdesk across North America, according to a prepared statement from AVG.

Continued Changes

La Vecchia joins AVG just as the security company shifts the Managed Workplace software brand from Level Platforms to AVG — essentially killing the Level Platforms brand.

The former Level Platforms has also seen several executive and staff member exits. Former VP of Business Development Dan Wensley exited Level Platforms when AVG acquired the company last month. Soon after, Datto hired away at least three Level Platforms employees, including Rob Rae.

Financially, AVG’s buyout of Level Platforms and SolarWinds’ acquisition of N-able are off to promising starts. The evidence:

  • AVG announced strong quarterly profits last week and spoke highly of the Level Platforms deal during an earnings call, noting that the acquisition involved only a 1.9X multiple on revenues.
  • SolarWinds recently increased its revenue outlook for N-able for the rest of 2013, stating that division GM JP Jauvin and his team are executing their business plan very effectively.

Within the MSP market, however, some folks are concerned about recent turnover in the Level Platforms ranks. AVG’s Walling has previosly indicated that the company remains strongly committed to the MSP market. Hiring La Vecchia to lead AVG’s North America channel operation certainly reinforces that point.
