Sizing Up the U.S. Managed Services Market

Demand for managed services in the United States will grow 7 percent annually through 2012, according to a new report from Research and Markets. Frankly, the report sounds very conservative, considering top managed service providers are generating double- and even trip-digit revenue growth rates, according to our own MSPmentor 100 report.

Still, Research and Markets’ conservative views could provide a healthy reality check to the managed services market. Admittedly, some VARs will fail in their bid to become managed service providers. So for every VAR that doubles its managed services revenue, there might be another VAR that’s closing up shop. And large enterprises — which already outsource such functions as firewall management and spam filtering — certainly won’t double or triple their MSP spending.

Research and Markets says its data is based on information from more than 1,000 US IT decision markets. The report features data organized by business size, technology and vertical market opportunities.

MSPmentor has not purchased or read the complete report. But if you’d like to look at the data, you can find more information here.
