Roaring Penguin Canlt Archiver: Email Archiving for SMBs

Roaring Penguin Software Inc. is pushing beyond its anti-spam heritage to introduce Canlt Archiver –an e-mail archiving and continuity platform. Canlt Archiver, available as on-premises software or as a hosted offering, integrates with running  Kaseya, N-Able and/or LPI Level Platforms. Here’s a look at the strategy, and potential implications for managed services providers.

“If you’re using our anti-spam service and your email goes down at any time, your emails will be redirected to the archiver and you can receive them there,” said David Skoll,  president and CEO of Roaring Penguin. “You’ll have access to the interface. So if someone is sending you a large file and your email goes down, you’ll find it in your archives.”

“Although it is an email archiving program I can’t stress enough how important email continuity is,” added Bill White, VP of sales and marketing at Roaring Penguin. Most small businesses are only vaguely aware of the regulatory requirements like HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and Sarbanes-Oxley, noted White: “They might have their own internal policies on e-mail retention . They hope they will never be sued so email discovery is of limited perceived value to them,” said White. “Traditional email archiving is seen as too big a solution for most SMBs.”

Roaring Penguin predicts MSPs will step in to assist SMBs with their archiving needs. The Hosted version of CanIt Archiver starts at $1 per user per month and it scales down from there based upon volume or upon making a longer term commitment. MSPs should check in with Roaring Penguin for margin information and pricing specifics.

Meanwhile, the market for email continuity and archiving solutions is getting crowded, especially as email archiving software companies increasingly pursue MSPs as business partners. During recent trade shows and conferences, companies such as Exchange Defender,Reflexion and Spam Soap were working hard to impressed MSPs as potential partners. And GFI Software today intrdocued MailEssentials Complete. Bottom line: MSPs have plenty of options in the email continuity market.
