Quest Launches Virtualization Management Suite for VMware

Quest Software, promoter of the PacketTrap MSP and PSA platforms, has launched vFundamentals, a virtualization management suite for VMware (VMW). The obvious question: Will Quest begin to connect the dots between its managed services software and virtualization management software?

I don’t have an immediate answer to that question. But Quest insiders tell me they are working to develop synergies between various Quest software platforms while remaining focused on core customer markets — like MSPs and corporate IT managers. Also of note: PacketTrap MSP already includes some VMware management capabilities, so I’m not sure if integration with vFundamentals would add that much to the story.

Quest’s new vFundamentals management suite offers backup, capacity planning and resource optimization for VMware virtual environments. The platform costs $995 per CPU,  and it includes Quest vRanger Pro, a VMware backup, replication and recovery solution. Moreover, vFundamentals includes capacity management and optimization technology from VKernel’s vOps Server Standard Edition.

In recent months, a growing number of managed services software platforms have specifically addressed VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V management.
