OpenDNS, ConnectWise Integration: Here's What MSPs Need to Know

It’s been a year since OpenDNS announced the integration of its Umbrella security service with the ConnectWise professional services automation (PSA) platform, but how has this integration helped managed service providers (MSPs) improve their IT security offerings?

OpenDNS says the offering lets MSPs “centrally manage and deliver Umbrella web filtering and security services that reduce malware infections up to 80 percent more than antivirus solutions.”

“If there is anything the MSP needs to address, there should be an alert ticket automatically created in ConnectWise. OpenDNS does this when we contain an infection, giving the MSP time to remediate the infection,” Dima Kumets, OpenDNS’s senior product manager for MSPs, told MSPmentor. “MSPs [also] wanted basic reporting data right in ConnectWise. They wanted to be able to instantly answer questions like ‘How many infections has OpenDNS prevented’ or ‘What are the top domains being accessed on the customer network?'”

OpenDNS helps MSPs automate security policy management

OpenDNS last week unveiled Centralized Settings, new Umbrella capabilities that enable MSPs to apply and manage security policy settings across their customer base.

The San Francisco-based cloud security services provider noted Centralized Settings “make it easy for MSPs to create branded block pages, customized security settings and even web filtering bundles right in the Umbrella MSP console.”

“Many organizations would deploy consumerized security solutions in the past, but today’s MSPs are realizing these solutions aren’t enough,” Kumets told MSPmentor. “We want to continue to make security solutions efficient, easy to deploy and easy to manage for MSPs.”

OpenDNS will showcase Centralized Settings and other enhancements to its MSP dashboard this week at IT Nation in Orlando, Florida.

MSPmentor also will be on hand to provide updates throughout the event.
