Microsoft is now offering a free trial of ExpressRoute through several of its network service provider partners.

Microsoft's ExpressRoute partners have come on board to support the promotion.
Microsoft (MSFT) is offering Azure customers the chance to try out its ExpressRoute direction connection service at no cost through a handful of global partners.
The promotion officially kicked off on January 1 (although Microsoft didn’t announce it on the Azure blog until late week) and will run to the end of June. In his blog post, Sameer Sankaran, senior business planner for Microsoft Azure, noted that the promotion is for the Azure ExpressRoute 10 Mbps Network Service Provider offering.
Several of Microsoft’s ExpressRoute partners have come on board to support the promotion, including:
British Telecom, which will match the promotion through to June 30.
Colt, which is also offering ExpressRoute connection services for free to its IP-VPN customers.
Level 3, which is offering 10 Mbps IP-VPN connections free until June 30.
Verizon (VZ), which is offering a six-month promotion for its Secure Cloud Interconnect on its basic data plan for first-time clients that sign a two-year agreement for 1 TB per month.
And AT&T, which is offering a trial of NetBond for six months.
“ExpressRoute gives you a fast and reliable connection to Azure, making it suitable for scenarios such as data migration, replication for business continuity, disaster recovery, and other high-availability strategies. It also allows you to enable hybrid scenarios by letting you seamlessly extend your existing datacenter to Azure,” Sankaran wrote.

The interest in public cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) direct connections is rising, particularly within the enterprise. Just about every major IaaS provider now has a complementary direct connection offering.
