Microsoft job cuts continue with the latest round impacting 559 workers in and around Seattle.

That’s according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the Washington State Employment Security Department.

The latest layoffs bring the total of Seattle-area cuts to 2,743, or more than one-quarter of the 10,000 cuts announced earlier this year, according to the Seattle Times. The cuts reportedly targeted Microsoft’s security operations.

Microsoft Statement on Job Cuts

Microsoft sent us the following statement:

“These workforce reductions are part of the effort to align our cost structure with our revenue that was announced in January via the Official Microsoft Blog, which is our official statement.”

Employees have taken to TheLayoff.com to comment on the latest Microsoft job cuts.

“The Washington state WARN site shows 559 new layoffs set for [March 28], which, so far, has also included other states, but they don’t update their state WARN sites,” one employee wrote. “Good luck everybody!”

Microsoft has initiated a plan to shed about 10,000 workers. In January, Microsoft told the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it would complete the thousands of layoffs by the end of the third fiscal quarter of 2023.

Microsoft is among the more than 20 companies doing business in the channel that have cut workers since the start of the year. Also on Tuesday, Rackspace confirmed it’s cutting 275 employees, citing the ongoing macroeconomic downturn.

Also this week, Veeam cut 200 workers. Accenture confirmed layoffs impacting 19,000 workers, or 2.5% of its global workforce, to reduce costs. And Amazon confirmed more layoffs impacting 9,000 workers, including many in Amazon Web Services (AWS). The internet giant in January initiated layoffs impacting 18,000 employees.
