The news continues to roll in from ManageEngine, the IT management software provider that has made a flurry of solution development announcements around the World Mobile Congress event. The latest news involved an upgrade to Password Manager Pro — the software provider’s privileged password management solution. We’ll get into the details in a minute, but first a little background on the solution itself.

Password Manager Pro is a vault designed for ManageEngine’s enterprise business customers to store and manage what the software provider calls “shared sensitive information.” That includes things like passwords, important documents and other information that make up a company’s digital or virtual identity. ManageEngine says the Password Manager Pro’s central vault eliminates security lapses because it’s a secure storage and access vault for passwords and because it automatically generates password changes frequently. It helps enterprises meet security audits and gives enterprise IT admins real-time alerts on password access controls.

So what’s new? ManageEngine will now let its enterprise customers use its Password Manager Pro solution to launch browser-based Windows RDP, SSH and Telnet sessions. And what’s more? They can do it from their iOS mobile devices. Password Manager Pro now also offers offline access to passwords with auto-synchronization to mobile devices and can integrate into Dropbox.

Update on Mobile Device Compatibility

If you’ve been following ManageEngine’s solution developments during 2012, you’ve probably noticed that the company is only making its solutions compatible with iOS mobile devices. When I spoke to with ManageEngine President Raj Sabhlok last week, he said that iOS devices are still the most popular devices among ManageEngine customers. But Sabhlok added that Android is becoming increasingly popular and that ManageEngine plans to update its IT management solution to include Android OS support. And soon, Sabhlok said he would like to reach a point at which ManageEngine releases Android and iOS support simultaneously.

Competition with BMC/Numara

When BMC Software acquired Numara Software in February 2012, ManageEngine saw an opportunity to potentially pull customers away from Numara. So in response to the acquisition, ManageEngine launched a new program that gives Numara customers a free one-year license for ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if they can show proof that have purchased licenses for either Numara Track-It! or Numara FootPrints. The offer is valid until March 31st, and as of early March, Sabhlok said ManageEngine has been able to convert roughly 30 Numara Software business customers over to ServiceDesk Plus.
