ManageEngine might be best known among managed service providers (MSPs) for its ServiceDesk Plus help desk software, Desktop Central integrated desktop and mobile device management (MDM) software and Password Manager Pro enterprise password management software.

However, the Pleasanton, California-based IT management company this week updated its self-service password management solution, ADSelfService Plus, and the move ultimately could have far-flung effects on both MSPs and their customers.

ADSelfService Plus helps IT administrators ensure that Windows password changes are synced with associated IT applications and systems.

ManageEngine pointed out that IT admins now have the flexibility to configure ADSelfService Plus so that password synchronization is available to only a select group of end users too.

“With users having to juggle so many passwords today, it is nearly impossible to commit so many passwords to memory and have them be unique and strong. ADSelfService … eliminates the requirement of users having to have superhuman memories to utilize secure passwords,” ManageEngine President Raj Sabhlok told MSPmentor.

ADSelfService Plus also supports several cloud-based apps and on-premise systems for password synchronization, including:

“A lot of businesses rely on Active Directory credentials to establish user identities for other systems and applications. Those businesses have to ensure each password modification in Active Directory, whether native or web-based, is reflected everywhere the password is used so that users have uninterrupted access to their systems and applications,” ManageEngine Product Manager Parthiban Paramsivam said in a prepared statement. “Now, ADSelfService Plus lets administrators provide end users with a highly secure, instant and seamless password synchronization experience.”

Sabhlok said he envisions his company eventually integrating ADSelfService Plus capabilities into its MSP products. 

But first, ManageEngine intends to build out its managed services offerings in 2015.

“We’re working on enhancing our MSP products and will continue to build out their capabilities,” Sabhlok said.

Incorporating ADSelfService Plus capabilities into ManageEngine’s MSP offerings potentially could allow service providers to sync customers’ password changes with associated IT apps and systems in real-time.

“Passwords aren’t going away. So, our plans include eliminating the nuances and complexity of password management for administrators and users,” Sabhlok added. “To that end, we will focus on automation, security and compliance. ADSelfService will be at the center of this effort.”
