LogMeIn Rescue, a remote support offering, has received an upgrade. LogMeIn says the new release builds on the mobile services added to LogMeIn Rescue when it was last updated in February 2011. The biggest addition? Mobile device configuration capabilities that allow end-users to troubleshoot and secure smart devices while they’re out working in the field.

According to LogMeIn, the new Rescue release allows IT administrators and users to:

  • Remotely configure Apple iOS and Google Android connectivity settings, including Wi-Fi network setup and Access Point Name (APN) settings;

  • remotely configure device permissions and push device pass code settings for iPhones and iPads;

  • create customized iOS help desk or self-help shortcut app icons — an SOS button on the device — giving iPad and iPhone users the ability to directly connect to quick help guides or even web chat through a single touch; and

  • initiate mobile and computer support sessions in a single click. This involves a new, full featured desktop app version of the LogMeIn Rescue Tech Console, a browser-less means of using all of Rescue’s web-based capabilities.

LogMeIn has been juggling multiple software updates in recent weeks. For instance the company recently added patch management for Windows and extended LogMeIn Ignition support to Android tablets.
