LogMeIn Refreshes iPad and iPhone App

LogMeIn, which provides remote access to computers across the Internet, has updated their LogMeIn Ignition iPhone and iPad app. Is the $29.99 finally worthy of the price tag? Read on for the updates and details.

Here’s the quick rundown. There’s a new hybrid controlling and interacting approach. It uses the iPad’s touch display, blended with a point-and-click control, to naturally interface with windows. LogMeIn says that this helps the native desktop OS interaction feel like it was made for multi-touch. There’s also new gesture-triggered swiping to switch between monitors and overall desktop monitor view, plus a new in-app search to provide easier access between computers.

LogMeIn has YouTube videos here. If you already have the existing software, you’re in luck, since the new upgrade is free.

But what’s the bigger picture here? LogMeIn says that the support and demand for the in this “large user base” is fueling their continued development. They also claim that the iPad is replacing traditional road-warrior computers because of the success and usefulness of the tablet.

That might be a wake-up call to MSPs or just the industry in general. This solution has potential, and it works. Maybe more companies should be jumping on the remote-tablet bandwagon? It’s certainly a climbing trend.
