LogMeIn Hires Intronis Veteran Ted Roller for MSP Initiative

LogMeIn (NASDAQ: LOGM) has hired Intronis veteran Ted Roller for a VP position focused on improving relations and sales with managed services providers (MSPs) and outsourced IT providers, MSPmentor has confirmed. The move comes as LogMeIn prepares to expand beyond remote access and remote control solutions. New offerings for MSPs will include Cubby, a file sharing and online document management system that will seek to compete with Box and Dropbox. Here’s the update.

LogMeIn already has considerable momentum in the MSP industry. Nearly 33 percent of MSPs indicate that they run one or more LogMeIn solutions, according to the ongoing MSPmentor 100 survey (which continues through Dec. 28). It sounds like Roller is joining the company to make sure additional MSPs know about that momentum, while also making sure MSPs and outsourced IT providers understand the full range and scope of LogMeIn’s software portfolio.

Roller has spent his entire career focused on the IT channel, building and running his own solutions provider before joining the software and cloud platform industry. Most recently he was VP of channel development at Intronis, a cloud-based backup provider that bet its entire business on MSPs and the channel in 2009. Intronis today announced that co-founder Neal Bradbury will succeed Roller.

Roller could not be reached for comment as he’s on vacation. In a prepared statement from Intronis, Roller said:

“It’s been an amazing ride and I am so thankful to Intronis and its partners. It was a great opportunity to help build the unstoppable momentum within the Intronis partner community and be part of such a fast growing, dynamic company.”

Roller’s shift to LogMeIn is part of a larger trend in the MSP market, where multiple executives are making career shifts ahead of the New Year. Some of the moves are now publicly known, but MSPmentor is tracking several that will likely emerge in the early January 2013 timeframe.
