Logicworks, which provides cloud computing and managed hosting services, has announced the general availability of its vertical-focused Logicworks Healthcare Cloud. Launched to a select group of customers last year, Healthcare Cloud has been deployed by several large healthcare application providers, multiple states’ health information exchanges (HIE) and global IT consultancies.

The Logicworks offering was designed to help customers in the healthcare field launch and scale applications faster, make it easy to share information between users and deploy Big Data solutions  at a reduced cost over competing solutions. That does sound like the challenges the healthcare industry has been facing—reduced budgets, a need to deploy useful applications quicker and a serious need for collaboration technologies. And it doesn’t matter where you are in the world; healthcare systems have issues.

Logicworks Healthcare Cloud provides customers with disaster recovery and hybrid cloud capabilities for customers operating internal infrastructures. It was developed to be deployable as a single-tenant, fully hosted private cloud, according to the company.

Perhaps the most critical thing in a healthcare industry-focused cloud solution, though, is security. With a growing number of compliance regulations and a need to protect customer information, the real key to making such a cloud work is security, in addition to ease of use.

According to Logicworks, the company did a detailed analysis of the needs of healthcare providers and before it built Healthcare Cloud, which is built on top of VMware vCloud Suite and EMC reference architectures specifically related to health care.
