Kaseya has named former Salesforce.com executive Prakash Khot as chief technology officer (CTO), overseeing the MSP software company’s IT service management platform development. Among Khot’s top priorities, MSPmentor believes: Pushing Kaseya’s platform toward the social and mobile worlds. Plus, he’ll need to Integrate acquired technologies from Zyrion and Rover Apps into the Kaseya platform for MSPs and corporate IT administrators.

According to a prepared statement from Kaseya:

“As a senior technology executive and serial entrepreneur, he brings 20 years of technology industry experience and success to Kaseya, including delivering market-leading cloud collaboration solutions. Prior to joining Kaseya, Khot was the senior vice-president of engineering at Salesforce, leading the big data and analytics, as well as the real-time collaboration efforts. Earlier, he was the founding CTO of Dimdim and AIM, acquired by Salesforce and CA, respectively.”

Read between the lines and it looks like Kaseya CEO Yogesh Gupta may have known Khot or run in similar circles during their days at CA Technologies. 

In a prepared statement, Khot noted that the “advent of social, mobile and cloud computing technologies have redefined everything in the digital world. It has opened up unprecedented possibilities and transformed the way end-users interact with their devices and applications. IT management processes and systems need to embrace this brave new world”

Changing MSP Software Market

Insight Venture Partners acquired Kaseya in June 2013. CEO Yogesh Gupta succeeded co-founder Gerald Blackie, who left the company when the deal was announced. More recently, Kaseya acquired Zyrion for cloud and virtualization management, and Rover Apps for mobile device management. 

The overall MSP software landscape has changed dramatically in recent weeks. In addition to Kaseya’s moves, Dell killed its PacketTrap platform while AVG acquired Level Platforms and SolarWinds purchased N-able Technologies.

All of the M&A activity has some MSPs closely evaluating where their managed services platforms are heading next.
