Microsoft (MSFT), ManageEngine and Panda Security are three of the top IT security newsmakers this week.

Each of these companies made important announcements recently that could affect MSPs and their customers.

Here’s a closer look at the IT security stories to watch for the third week of July:

1. Microsoft CEO discusses the future of cloud computing
Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, shared his thoughts on the “mobile-first, cloud-first world” during his keynote address at last week’s Worldwide Partner Conference 2014 (WPC14) in Washington DC.

He noted his company is focused on providing a secure end-user infrastructure that ensures customers can protect sensitive data against digital threats.

“I can’t be more excited about Enterprise Mobility Suite. It’s a fantastic piece of technology,” Nadella told WPC14 attendees. “It’s got lots of road map ahead. But it’s the place where we will shine because the complexity that exists for the IT, as there is more bring-my-own-device, as there is more adoption of software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications, as there’s more cybersecurity incidents in your organization, you need this control plane.”

It’s unclear how Microsoft will implement and deploy new security technologies, but expect to learn more about them at Worldwide Partner Conference 2015 in Orlando.

2. ManageEngine unveils a new API
ManageEngine last week announced a new integration that enables third-party tools to access log data generated by its security information and event management (SIEM) solution EventLog Analyzer.

The EventLog Analyzer application programming interface (API) lets administrators place log data into any third-party application, including crowdsourced threat intelligence solutions.

“While security visibility across all elements of IT infrastructure has become essential, most organizations cannot afford [a] huge investment on big data analytics. The current enhancements in EventLog Analyzer bridge this crucial gap,” ManageEngine Product Manager Chenthil Kumaran said in a prepared statement.

ManageEngine added the new API works with EventLog Analyzer version 9.0.

3. Panda Security launches PCOP 7.0
Cloud security company Panda Security last week launched a new version of its cross-platform corporate solution.

The new release, Panda Cloud Office Protection (PCOP) 7.0, includes:

“We believe that [customers] will receive the new version with enthusiasm. We have worked hard over the last six months to cover their main demands so we feel confident that the new PCOP version will be valued by our customers,” Silvia Torres Senso, Panda Security’s global public relations director, told MSPmentor.

Panda Security noted this version also allows users to act independently to secure their IT infrastructure against attacks.

4. GFI Software adds file archiving
GFI Software now offers file archiving with its GFI MailArchiver 2014 solution.

The new feature enables file sharing while keeping documents stored safely and securely, according to GFI Software.

“With File Archiving Assistant, GFI MailArchiver now provides the convenience of popular cloud-based storage sites but hosted on-premise in a manner where organizations can remain in control of their data and maintain better compliance,” Sergio Galindo, general manager of GFI Software’s infrastructure business unit, said in a prepared statement.

The company said File Archiving Assistant is available immediately.
