Isilon Partners With Microsoft for Cloud Storage Solutions

Storage specialists Isilon, recently acquired by EMC, has joined the Microsoft Partner Solutions Center (MPSC). The result: Isilon and Microsoft will work with Microsoft on integrated virtualization, cloud, and telecommunications products. Here are some details.

Isilon’s scale-out approach to storage, as detailed here, is designed to simplify data management and resource utilization in physical and virtual computing environments — making their technology a natural fit for Microsoft’s customers looking for on-demand solutions, according to a press release.

While exact details are yet to come, Microsoft and Isilon see great synergy between the former’s Hyper-V hypervisor for virtualized data centers and the latter’s OneFS storage platform. Both aim to improve application performance and resource utilization. Similarly, combining the Windows Azure cloud platform with Isilon technology can potentially increase application scalability and performance. And on the telecommunications front, they can improve efficiency when it comes to ever-growing content libraries, the two companies claim.

The MPSC (Microsoft Partner Solutions Center) itself is a facility on Microsoft’s Redmond campus with a NOC, partner offices, technology laboratories, and testing areas where companies like Isilon come to develop their combined IT solutions. Stay tuned for more on what they come up with.
