Intel Adds Ex-Cisco Executive to Lead Security Division
Technology giant Intel (INTC) has named former Cisco Systems (CSCO) executive Christopher Young as general manager and senior vice president of its security division.
Young will lead the Intel Security Group, which owns and operates antivirus software provider McAfee (MFE), and join Intel’s management committee.
“Chris Young is a world-class leader in cybersecurity, and I have full confidence that he’ll establish Intel Security as the pre-eminent provider of pervasive security and identity protection,” Intel President Renée James said in a prepared statement. “The opportunities for innovation and growth are unparalleled.”
Young previously served as senior vice president of Cisco’s Security Business Group and was responsible for strategy, engineering and product development for the company’s global security business.
He also has served as senior vice president and general manager at VMware (VMW), where he led engineering, product development and marketing for its desktop virtualization, consumer and end user offerings, and as RSA‘s senior vice president of products.
What does Young’s addition mean for Intel Security?
Intel purchased McAfee for $7.68 billion in August 2010, and Young’s addition could help unite the Intel Security and McAfee brands.
“We’ve already begun to unify teams from McAfee and Intel toward the goal of one organization with one strategy under the Intel Security brand. Chris will provide the leadership to realize the vision of one Intel Security organization,” an Intel spokesperson told MSPmentor.
McAfee generates more than $2 billion in annual revenue and provides antivirus solutions to millions of businesses and consumers worldwide.
