The IBM SmartCloud managed services platform recently got a data protection boost with the announcement of IBM SmartCloud Resilience, a disaster recovery and archiving offering. Big Blue is promoting it as a physical and virtual server backup service that replicates all applications to off-site cloud infrastructure for enterprises of all sizes.
SmartCloud Resilience includes two separate services, according to the press release:
IBM SmartCloud Virtualized Server Recovery: Hyped as a way to “eliminate” customer downtime and protect against data loss, this offering provides a web portal to bring back critical data from the cloud in the event of an outage – no travel or incompatible hardware considerations necessary.
IBM SmartCloud Archive: Designed for businesses with regulatory compliance and privacy concerns, SmartCloud Archiving offers full eDiscovery capabilities, search and indexing, and document/record management systems that can handle both structured and unstructured data.
IBM is promoting SmartCloud Resilience as a complement to its existing two-year-old SmartCloud Managed Backup offering, which available for private and public cloud deployments. And these services aren’t replacing the cloud-enabled IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery business continuity software – customers will have the choice between the two.
IBM SmartCloud Resilience will be generally available July 19, 2011.
