HP (HPQ) will incorporate Webroot‘s BrightCloud IP Reputation Service into its Enterprise Security Products portfolio to provide greater visibility into threats introduced to customer networks by corporate and employee-owned mobile devices.

Webroot also said its BrightCloud IP Reputation Service now leverages the company’s BrightCloud Mobile App Reputation Service, which features a database of over 11 million mobile applications and can detect communication channels that malicious apps use to control or extract sensitive personal or business data.

“Teaming up with an industry leader like HP demonstrates the value of our threat intelligence services to greatly improve efficacy and proactively identify threats,” Scott Merkle, Webroot’s vice president of enterprise and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) sales, said in a prepared statement. “By adding mobile threat IPs to our already industry-leading IP reputation services, network security providers like HP can further enhance the detection of threats introduced by bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and the multitude of mobile devices connected to the enterprise network.”

Webroot added it expects the new partnership to open up significant opportunities for new engagements and technology collaboration across HP.

“In every OEM partnership, we strive to expand the value we provide to the partner based on their needs and priorities,” a Webroot spokesperson told MSPmentor. “Ultimately, value is delivered to the end user in terms of innovation and product improvements that can be delivered more quickly and at a higher quality than if the partner tried to go it alone.”

What will Webroot’s BrightCloud IP Reputation Service offer HP customers?

Webroot said the BrightCloud IP Reputation Service helps reduce the amount of time that is needed to identify new and existing IP threats and gives IT administrators greater visibility into these threats.

HP users will be able to leverage the BrightCloud IP Reputation Service to identify malicious IP traffic associated with mobile apps, according to Webroot.

“We worked closely with HP’s security group to address specific customer requirements around detecting mobile threats, which resulted in a solution that enhanced both HP and Webroot’s overall threat intelligence capabilities,” a Webroot spokesperson said. “The partnership will also enhance HP’s already robust service, which features a combination of reputation security feeds and malware filters to allow customers to protect their sensitive data and optimize network performance.”

The BrightCloud IP Reputation Service will be available to HP customers by the end of this year.
