Health Care MSPs: Whatever Happened to gloStream EMR?
gloStream, which develops electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management (PM) software, had a huge coming out party back in 2010 — opening its arms wide to MSPs (managed services providers). At the time the company claimed to have a “100 percent success rate” with customer installations. It almost sounded too good to be true. Was it?
I'm not in a position to answer that question. At least not yet. That's why I'm reaching out to MSPmentor's readers — and ultimately, gloStream itself.
- Which MSPs succeeded with gloStream and why?
- Which MSPs stumbled with gloStream and why?
- Ultimately, what has been gloStream's success rate among MSPs and channel partners?
Why am I asking those questions? In recent weeks I've heard from a range of MSPs that are succeeding in the health care market. But many of those MSPs licked plenty of wounds all the way. Understanding the needs of health care practitioners is a tall challenge. The challenge becomes even more complicated when the MSP tries to master compliance challenges and the associated IT solutions. During those recent MSP conversations, each of us started asking that common question: Whatever happened to gloStream?
The company grabbed the spotlight at IT Nation 2010, hosting an elaborate party and positioning ERM as the next big opportunity for MSPs. That bash arrived about a year after gloStream raised $7.5 million in series B financing. The company also inked distribution agreements with D&H (2011) and Tech Data (2010).
What's the latest? When time permits I'll reach out to Mark Gum, executive VP of partners and practices, this week. But I'd also like to hear from MSPmentor readers. Which MSPs succeeded with gloStream? How and why? And if you didn't succeed: What went wrong? Feel free to post a comment or send me email, joe [at] NineLivesMediaInc.com.
Nelson: Thanks for your note and readership. In addition to getting up to speed on EMR solutions, I think MSPs have to get up to speed on medical practices. No they customer. You can't fake your way through all this.
Side note: I spoke with gloStream CEO Michael Sappington at length this morning. I think gloStream and MSPs alike have evolved quite a bit since the original gloStream-MSP push in 2010. I plan to post a detailed blog later this week. Stay tuned.

Adam: Thanks for weighing in. I've been focused on a few other deadlines but intend to loop back with a gloStream update soon…

Joe – Wondering if you had that update on GloStream yet?
Shame on me. I had great call with gloStream CEO but have yet to post update. I'll get a blog online this week for you and our readership.

They killed their partner
They killed their partner program according to one of their partners. The partner was very bitter!
We were a GloStream Certified
We were a GloStream Certified Partner out in California and did about 5 implementations. Although most of our clients were happy with the EMR/PM I dont think a single one of them actually achieved 100% success rate and struggled until they got into the groove. They completely axed their partners/MSP’s (who paid a considerable amount) to become certified in their program. They sell direct now and have nothing to do with the MSP’s now.
Here is what it comes down to
Here is what it comes down to Mike Sappington is the biggest liar and is totally unprofessional. For years he contended that he need resellers and that Glo is here to work for you 24/7. He brought in a lot of big guns from Allscripts who he later terminated. He abandoned his resellers who were instrumental in putting him on the map. Glo is deceitful and will end up in bankruptcy.
