Former SAP Channel Chief Pat Hume Joins GFI Software for MSP Push

The rumors were true. Former SAP Channel Chief Pat Hume is set to join GFI Software as the SaaS and cloud company's global channel chief, The VAR Guy is reporting. Hume's leap to GFI Software has far reaching implications for the traditional channel and the SaaS industry. But most of all, I think Hume's move to GFI Software is a wakeup call to big software companies that are late to the MSP game.

Over the past two or three years, I've watched as small, nimble software companies have successfully embraced managed services providers (MSPs) across the globe. True believes in the MSP market include dozens of online backup, cloud security, PSA (professional services automation) and RMM (remote monitoring and management) software providers. Some focus on cloud- and SaaS-based solutions for MSPs. Others promote on-premise options. The common thread: Those small, nimble technology companies have taught VARs and MSPs how to generate recurring revenues.

In essence: The managed services industry is a springboard toward SaaS and cloud opportunities.

Apparently, former SAP Channel Chief Pat Hume got the memo. She's joining GFI Software, reporting to CEO Walter Scott. Hiring Hume is a bold move by Scott. Over the past few years, Scott has built GFI Software through organic growth plus a range of acquisitions -- including HoungDog Technologies. But in some ways, GFI Software's growth has been overshadowed by larger MSP software providers like Kaseya.

In recent months, GFI Software has been working to further raise its visibility. Scott claims GFI Software now has roughly 3,000 managed services channel partners. Plus, General Manager Alistair Forbes has been evangelizing GFI Software's efforts to closely integrate a range of home-grown and acquired SaaS solutions.

Now, the hiring of Pat Hume further confirms GFI Software's serious commitment to channel partners -- including MSPs. We hope to share insights directly from Hume within the next few days...
