Flexera Software's latest cloud offering update is intended to help application developers to explore new licensing models that reduce or even eliminate the complexity of managing a local license server. The new features are part of Flexera's FlexNet Producer Suite, a software licensing, entitlement management and delivery product.

"Application producers want to focus their development resources on innovating business solutions for their customers—and not on figuring out how they're going to license their software in constantly changing technology environments," said Mathieu Baissac, vice president of Product Management at Flexera Software, in a prepared statement. "FlexNet Producer Suite is the most comprehensive solution available, making it easy for application producers to leverage any licensing model in any environment—while reducing licensing complexity for the end customer."

Under the FlexNet Producer Suite product, Flexera has launched the new cloud licensing service to simplify enterprise license key management. To do this, Flexera noted it eliminates local license servers, porting license managing to the cloud service.

But for application developers, Flexera expects new opportunities in different licensing models. According to the company, app developers can use FlexNet Producer Suite to eliminate licensing complexity associated with setting up and managing a local license server.

"Application producers increasingly are getting complaints from their customers that software license management is simply too complex and time-consuming. Leveraging the cloud licensing-as-a-service is a great way to eliminate complexity and increase satisfaction," Baissac said.

Part of the problem Flexera hopes to solve is in the fact that many application developers are unaware of the software license compliance risk they take when virtualizing applications and then moving them to different data centers, as well as various public and private cloud infrastructures. FlexNet Producer Suite's new features help to ensure enterprises stay in software compliance even when migrating apps to different cloud providers.
