EMC VFCache Boosts Oracle, SAP Application Performance

EMC Corp. kicked off February 2012 be releasing VFCache -- a new Flash caching solution that EMC business customers can combine with EMC's Flash storage systems in order to "dramatically improve application performance," EMC claims.

Indeed, EMC says the VFCache solution to an EMC Flash storage solution can reduce latency by 60 percent. The VFCache development also means that EMC is extending its Flash technology beyond what it calls "edge case social media and Internet," and into support for Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and other mainstream applications.

"EMC identified very early on that Flash would technology would change the industry forever," EMC President and COO of Information Infrastructure Pat Gelsinger said in a prepared stateement. "With today's announcement, EMC also becomes the first to implement PCIe Flash in a way that ensures mission critical applications reach new levels of performance, at the right cost, and with the level of protection and intelligence that customers demand."

The VFCache solution allows the EMC FAST architecture to facilitate end-to-end data tiering and caching from the storage space straight to the server, EMC claims. On a related note, EMC FAST is one of the company's fastest growing storage products.

This week I'll be attending an EMC event in San Francisco to gather more insights and to chat with EMC President Gelsinger about EMC's channel partner strategy.
