EarthLink Announces Layoffs in Alabama, New York

EarthLink (ELNK) has confirmed that it has laid off 110 employees across two of its Alabama business sales offices.

Pam O’Connor, EarthLink’s senior manager of corporate communications, told MSPmentor that her company determined the layoffs were necessary at its Anniston and Arab business sales offices “to realign according to our business plan and to enable the company’s future success.”

“As EarthLink continues to balance resources in 2015 to focus on profitable growth and our new strategic managed services business unit, we decided to eliminate the positions of some incredibly talented employees for whom we have great respect and appreciation,” O’Connor said. “We expect that our Anniston office will remain a core location moving forward … We did not take this decision about job impacts lightly and are committed to fair and compassionate treatment of our people throughout the process.”

O’Connor also confirmed a Rochester Democrat and Chronicle report from last week that EarthLink was set to lay off 60 employees across two of its New York business corporate offices. These layoffs will take place at EarthLink’s Rochester and Pittsford business corporate offices between now and the end of April.

EarthLink was the top-ranked managed service provider (MSP) on last year’s MSPmentor 501 list and reported $297.7 million in total revenue during the third quarter of 2014, which represented a 3.5 percent quarter-over-quarter decrease.

The Atlanta-based MSP currently employs over 3,000 workers.
