Information technology and communications services giant Dimension Data (DDT) has plans to extend its global reach.

The company last week said it will offer cloud support from Australian managed security service provider (MSSP) Earthwave to customers worldwide.

Dimension Data acquired Earthwave last September to “extend and strengthen its managed security services and support its growth in cloud services, IT outsourcing and enterprise mobility,” according to the company.

Rodd Cunico, Dimension Data’s CEO, said he believed the acquisition would help his company better address many of the security concerns that are typically associated with cloud services adoption.

“While Dimension Data’s focus is on organic growth, we always evaluate the option of ‘build versus buy.’ Based on the demands of our clients, we had a clear requirement to extend our security capabilities,” Cunico said in a prepared statement.

Dimension Data Director of Solutions Neil Campbell told PCWorld his company is taking a “slow-but-steady approach” to scaling Earthwave’s service.

He noted Dimension Data has already doubled Earthwave’s contract base in Australia and plans to use its experience to scale the MSSP’s service globally.

“When you think about doubling its contract base in a relatively short period, that’s quite a lot of demand,” Campbell said.
