Denver MSP Gets Visit from FBI Over Clinton EMail Server

IT service provider Platte River Networks has found itself in the middle of the controversy over former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of shadow IT systems – using personal email for communications that pertained to government business.

The Denver-based company got a visit from the FBI last week looking into Clinton’s personal email server that she used for government business, according to a local news report. Clinton’s attorney, David Kendall, has reportedly told investigators that the server in question at Platte River Networks has been wiped clean.

In any case, it raises the question of how IT service providers should handle such issues with their customers. Diane Krakora, CEO of channel market research and consulting firm PartnerPath, told MSPmentor that highly public cases like this one give organizations the opportunity to showcase their services and also educate their customers.

“I think this is a great example and opportunity for solution providers to play the trusted advisor and consultant role with their customers,” Diane Krakora, CEO of channel market research and consulting firm Partner Path.

“I don’t know if Platte River Networks knew the email belonged to Hillary Clinton as that might not have been fully disclosed or if was a private (ie non-government) account. They certainly did nothing wrong in delivering the service at the level they were contracted to provide.”

Platte River Networks is not talking to the press, according to the Denver CBS news affiliate, and the FBI is still in the information gathering stage and has not shared further details, according to the report.

MSPmentor will be watching developments and keep you updated.
