DataMotion PaaS Integrates Systems for Secure Data Transfer

Cloud-based data delivery firm DataMotion has launched the latest version of its namesake platform-as-a-service (PaaS), which the company bills as a secure data delivery hub for messages, files and forms from disparate vendors, enabling users to send and receive data from one central location.

According to the company, the DataMotion Platform operates on a central hub for secure delivery of messages, files and forms; integrates with various systems; and is secured by military-grade encryption. Partners can offer the DataMotion Platform on a pay-as-you-go basis, creating a recurring revenue stream.

Bob Janacek, CTO of DataMotion, noted in a recent interview what a unified platform means for data transfer:

“We think a unified approach with the DataMotion Platform would be a centralized control and visibility over all data transfers whether they are involving people, involving systems, files, e-mails, forms, web services and a whole range of data transfers that a company would deliver to its customer and partners.”

And the major benefits, he said, lie in compliance, centralized control and cost reduction:

“Since we’ve brought (these capabilities) into the control platform, the compliance and security go way up, and they (the customers) have visibility over all these transfers. They can see different workflows happening. And since the platform is by nature secure, they can show that all their different data flows are in compliance with privacy regulation. The result is driving down all that complexity and centralizing the solution, besides gaining control of data that’s delivered through the cloud, significantly cutting the cost of delivering these types of data transfer solutions.”

Mike Osterman, president of Osterman Research, commented in an e-mail on the integration capability of the platform:

“One of the benefits of the DataMotion offering is that it integrates a variety of capabilities that organizations use today: FTP, cloud-based file transfer solutions, customized solutions that send data through different channels, store it in different repositories, etc. This can lead to a number of problems, including higher costs because several different services and platforms are used, compliance problems because organizations cannot find or track data when necessary, legal problems if they can’t discover all relevant data during legal actions, (and) regulatory problems.”

The DataMotion Platform, he said, addresses three primary markets: corporate and end users, corporate customers and government agencies, and VARs and resellers. Users want to communicate in a secure manner with other organizations for a number or purposes. Larger customers “want to improve the security and auditability of their file and form transfers, while at the same time reducing the cost of these types of content transfers,” he said. Meanwhile, VARs and resellers have the opportunity to integrate the platform into their offerings; for example, a “VAR that wants to create a customized content delivery and workflow solution for a customer can integrate the DataMotion Platform with its own offering to provide a secure content transfer capability as part of an overall package of services.”
