Coriant Aims to Accelerate On-Demand Service Enablement

Coriant has launched its Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud, which was designed to be an end-to-end and highly programmable infrastructure offering that enables service providers to address the challenges of providing dynamic, virtualized, high-bandwidth applications and services.

Powered by metro-to-core packet optical networking capabilities and software-defined networking (SDN) technologies, Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud is being touted as being a catalyst for accelerating on-demand service enablement while also simplifying network operations. According to Coriant, it provides service providers with a greater level of programmability, automation and control of multilayer, multivendor transport networks.

It was also developed to help service providers reduce both opex and capex while creating new revenue opportunities in on-demand services, the company said.

The solution is made of up of the 7100 and hiT 7300 packet optical networking platforms, the 8600 mobile edge router, a variety of applications, open orchestration and controllers. All of the products are currently available on the market, but this bundled offering brings them all together for specific cloud-related practical applications.

“Coriant’s Dynamic Optical Cloud solution reinforces our market leadership in end-to-end packet optical networking following the merger of Tellabs and Coriant,” said Pat DiPietro, CEO of Coriant, in a prepared statement. “With greater scale, deeper R&D resources and technology expertise, and an expanded portfolio of SDN-enabled products and capabilities, we are well-positioned to be the preferred supplier to our customers as their network and service requirements evolve in a cloud-centric world.”

Coriant also has plans to continue bring SDN-related products to market to further enable service providers in the cloud and other service offerings.

Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud and other SDN-related solutions should also provide Coriant’s channel partners with opportunities both now and in the future, particularly as the need for SDN grows.
