Comcast Adds Metro Ethernet Services to Partner Program

Comcast Corporation LogoAt the Channel Partners Conference in Chicago, Ill., Comcast said it has added Metro Ethernet services to the Comcast Business Solutions Provider Program in order to attract more partners and to give SMBs access to “fast, reliable and cost-effective Ethernet services,” according to a company press release.

“The addition of our new solution provider partners with their own direct sales forces will be a key asset to bringing Metro Ethernet solutions to mid-sized businesses looking to increase productivity and lower costs through a high-performance network,” Comcast Business Services Vice President of Indirect Channel Sales Craig Schlagbaum said in a prepared statement.

Comcast is one of several cable companies to promote managed services while also seeking to work with channel partners. Elsewhere, Cox Communications is the other big cable company embracing the SMB market. Comcast made an earlier SMB play in April 2010 when it introduced its own File Storage Service for MSPs catering to small businesses.

Comcast’s latest move is in response to a growing number of SMBs using bandwidth-intensive applications like cloud computing, business continuity solutions and Software-as-a-Service. The Comcast brass believes Metro Ethernet services will become more popular as companies look to streamline their wide area networks (WAN).
