Apache Hadoop data management services provider Cloudera has released the public beta of version 4.0 of its enterprise-grade Distribution Including Apache Hadoop (CDH4), built with plenty of feedback from enterprise customers and the Apache open source community to focus on increased security and improved extensibility for high availability and Big Data environments.

“We are pleased to deliver CDH4 into public beta and proud of the significant ground we and the extended Apache community have been able to cover in terms of enhancements,” said Charles Zedlewski, VP of Product at Cloudera, in the press release. “CDH4 represents a significant leap in the evolution of the CDH platform. CDH integrates the fine work of the Apache open source community where our own dedicated engineers invest heavily. Our team continues to work tirelessly on CDH4 and we invite anyone who is interested in deploying a Hadoop cluster, or already has a cluster in production, to download CDH4 for free and contribute feedback.”

CDH4 new features, according to Cloudera, include:

Earlier this month GoGrid included hardware to run its newly released Big Data Solution through Cloudera’s Distribution of Hadoop. Also in April IBM and Microsoft released Apache-compatible database products: IBM with its DB2 and Infosphere 10 offerings and Microsoft launching its SQL 2012 database.
