CloudBerry Labs Unveils Support for Low-Cost Amazon Glacier

CloudBerry Lab is expanding its support for public cloud storage options in the latest version of its Managed Backup Service. The service now supports Amazon Glacier, the low-cost archival cloud storage service launched by Amazon Web Services in August 2012.

According to CloudBerry, the new Amazon Glacier support provides MSPs with the ability to easily exploit the secure and durable low-cost storage service Amazon has been building up over recent months. CloudBerry is no stranger to working with and supporting Amazon Web Services offerings. Several months ago, the company launched a migration service that enables customers to shift files back and forth between Amazon S3, Windows Azure and Rackspace. CloudBerry Managed Backup is also powered by Amazon S3.

CloudBerry promises MSPs that this latest announcement for support of Glacier could save MSPs up to 90 percent of their costs when compared to on-premise solutions. Glacier offers archival storage (so not to be used for files and applications that need to be readily and constantly accessed) for a cool $0.01 per gigabyte per month, and it was designed specifically for data archiving and backup in mind.

For MSPs already using CloudBerry that want to reduce their costs (and really, can anybody say they don’t want to cut costs?), this new integration with Glacier could help significantly with the bottom line. According to CloudBerry, Managed Backup Service also helps reduce costs by providing remote management and monitoring capabilities, thereby reducing operating costs.

“Low-cost Amazon Glacier storage in combination with CloudBerry Managed Backup solution allows service providers to start their own online backup business with no hardware cost and offers reliable online backup service under their own brand at very competitive prices,” said Alexey Serkov, CTO of CloudBerry Lab, in a prepared statement.

The service in general provides MSPs with the ability to “maximize business continuity and avoid business disruption for their customers.” The new version with Amazon Glacier support is available now.
