Calyptix Security has released "Profit Rockets: 3 Fast Ways to Accelerate Profit with Better Network Security," a report that describes how managed service providers (MSPs) can profit from network management and security services.

Network management and security provider Calyptix Security is making a renewed pitch to managed service providers (MSPs) with a new report that promotes its consumption-based model for MSPs to boost profits.

Profit Rockets: 3 Fast Ways to Accelerate Profit with Better Network Security takes a look at security from the perspective of a managed service provider’s consumption model. Calyptix notes that MSPs often pay  upfront costs for network management and security services they provide to their customers. There’s a disconnect, then, in cash flow.

Calyptix Chief Executive Officer Ben Yarbrough said he believes MSPs can profit if they leverage monthly, commitment-free network management and security services, such as those provided by his company.

“MSPs need a security vendor that fits their business model,” Yarbrough said in a prepared statement. “They should not need to commit to one or three years of service. They should pay the same way their clients do, which is month-to-month.”

For example, Anchor Network Solutions, a Colorado-based professional IT services provider for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), recently selected a network management and security vendor that offered month-to-month billing. And Anchor CEO Vince Tinnirello said his company has profited from its investment.

“Instead of laying out a bunch of money and waiting months to earn it back, now we pay monthly without any long-term commitment. We can quickly earn a profit – and that’s the way it should be,” Tinnirello said in a prepared statement.

Calyptix also points out the true profitability of a network management and security service typically goes beyond what an MSP pays a vendor. In fact, Calyptix said a network management and security service’s ease of use, features and maintenance could determine whether MSPs can profit from the service.

In its report, Calyptix offered the following recommendations for MSPs to profit from their network management and security services:

  • Get a device that is easy to use – Calyptix noted complex network management and security devices usually require more time to deploy, configure and maintain.

  • Focus on the service’s features and price – MSPs can charge their customers for additional features and avoid a network management and security vendor’s activation fee if they choose a vendor that provides a fixed-price service.

  • Explain the problem to prospects – Calyptix points out “the easiest way to get prospects interested in a security service is to make them aware of a problem or vulnerability they have. These problems are huge in number, and [MSPs] can pick and choose the best for each situation.”
