BoxTone, an enterprise mobility management (EMM) specialist, has teamed with 3LM to deliver an embedded security and management platform for Google Android mobile devices and applications. Here are the details.

3LM is a security, management and remote access solution provider for Android mobile devices and handsets. It’s also a subsidiary of Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. The company’s signature solution for Android devices is an end-to-end mobile device management platform that it delivers through its enterprise service console.

What does that mean for BoxTone? Expanded cross-platform support. BoxTone already supports BlackBerry and Apple iOS smartphones and tablets. Supporting Android is especially critical, considering the Google operating system now has about 43.7 percent market share, according to an August 2011 comScore Inc. report.

3LM seems like the perfect partner for BoxTone given that report. 3LM has experience securing Android devices and has licenses with Android handset manufacturers. The partnership will be key for BoxTone as it competes with other MDM software providers like AirWatch, MobileIron and FromDistance, which was recently acquired by Numara Software.
