BluPointe Updates Cloud Data Protection for MSPs

BluPointe, a data protection technology provider, has enhanced its signature BluPointe Secure Cloud Backup data protection solution for managed services providers (MSPs). According to the company, the enhancements were made around security and data integrity.

The new version of the cloud-based data protection software allows MSPs and business end-users to perform delta blocks on bootable images -- it's a feature that BluPointe says is the first of its kind. It offers encryption during transit, fast restore, remote data access and full reporting capabilities through what BluPointe describes as a very easy installation process.  The new cloud backup software solution supports Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware and  Citrix Systems XenServer, as well as applications like Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, Open File Backup and Oracle.

Overall, BluPointe offers three types of disaster recovery -- email archiving, bare metal backup and data protection -- for MSPs and backup service providers through its reseller program. BluPointe partners can white label the solution (present it as their own brand) and also receive instant provisioning, centralized monitoring, proactive alerting and have access to a partner center full of technical notes, white papers and marketing information and graphics. Among other perks, BluPointe resellers get free trial accounts, free technical support, free sales and technical training and 30% to 80% margins. The BluPointe Secure Cloud Backup data protection solution starts at $349 for resellers ($15 per month per server).

BluPointe competes in a very crowded market, where numerous cloud storage providers are reaching out to MSPs. We'll keep an eye on how the company's early 2012 announcement plays out throughout the year, as well as other cloud-based data protection providers that challenge BluPointe's claim of offering the only cloud data protection software that offers delta block on bootable images.
