AWS Pop-up Loft Returning This Fall

It appears that Amazon Web Services‘ brick-and-mortar hangout for developers was a hit. Amazon announced that the AWS Pop-up Loft will be returning in the fall with a fine-tuned model the cloud vendor hopes will better serve the needs of developers.

The Pop-up Loft concept began with a four-week pilot project in San Francisco. The location provided developers with the ability to network, learn, work and socialize — kind of like a big water cooler surrounded by apps developers. Although there was an open concept to The Loft, Amazon also provided more structured and scheduled events designed to be of interest to developers.

“I am happy to announce that The Loft will reopen in the fall! Based on the feedback that we received during the pilot in June, we have fine-tuned the model to make it even more valuable for you,” wrote Jeff Barr, Amazon Web Services’ chief evangelist, in a blog post.

As our sister site, The VAR Guy, noted in an article, The Loft will use the same model as before, and the San Francisco location will be the first of many to go online. Amazon wasn’t specific as to how many Pop-up Lofts will open, but the cloud services provider plans to open them in startup hot spots.

Barr outlined a few of the features of the Pop-up Lofts:

  • Developers will have the ability to meet one-on-one with AWS technical experts.

  • Product sessions will be scheduled so developers can learn more of the ins and outs of each Amazon product.

  • Technical bootcamps will offered for hands-on experience.

  • Developers will be able to sharpen their skills through self-paced, hands-on labs.

  • And there will be scheduled events once again. Barr said events will include “talks with success startups and networking opportunities.”

According to Amazon, the San Francisco loft can accommodate up to 400 people at a time.
