Avere, Nexenta Partner of Open Storage Solution

Avere Systems and Nexenta have partnered to promote a scalable, open storage solution to conduct inline deduplication and thin provisioning, the company's say. The effort combines Avere's FXT Series of appliances with Nexenta's ZFS technology to deliver what both companies are calling an enterprise-class data management solution.

The timing of this Avere-Nexenta partnership is no coincidence. It comes as Nexenta hosts the OpenStorage Summit 2011 (San Jose, Calif, Oct. 26-27). Nexenta expects the hundreds of chief information officers (CIO), chief technology officers (CTO) and IT administrators scheduled to attend to be looking for a cost-effective approach to solving some of their more complex storage issues.  Avere Systems VP of Marketing Rebecca Thompson says the new offering is a "perfect complement" to Avere's NAS solutions. Thompson also says the solution is "a fraction of the cost of traditional storage systems," and does not require clients to sacrifice any data management features -- though we don't have cost figures handy.

We'll try to catch up with Avere execs after OpenStorage Summit 2011 to find out how the solution was received by attendees.
