Apprenda 3.0: Microsoft .NET Meets Cloud Computing
Apprenda continues to polish its .NET-based platform as a service (PaaS) for enterprise clouds. The latest release, Apprenda 3.0, offers enhanced manageability and broadened platform support for developers, Apprenda claims.
Talkin’ Cloud is intrigued by Apprenda for several reasons. The company wants to help channel partners and customers to transform .NET-based applications into cloud applications. Apprenda raised $10 million in series B funding back in August 2011, and earlier this year recruited MySQL veteran Kerry Ancheta as VP of sales.
The latest Apprenda release, version 3.0, focuses on three areas of enhancement, the company claims:
- Manageability: So-called “slice policies” allow you to manage resources for each application, and specific applications can leverage excess capacity.
- Broadened support: Apprenda claimed 3.0 supports nearly any .NET web or SOA application running atop existing or new Windows infrastructure.
- Developer productivity: API calls allow developers to leverage built-in caching and application metering capabilities, freeing developers up to focus on strategic code development, Apprenda claims.
This is the first we’ve heard from Apprenda since the company partnered with Tenzing Managed IT Services to help independent software vendors (ISVs) migrate to a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model with the help of the Apprenda SaaSGrid application server.
