Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced lower data transfer prices across the board for all its cloud infrastructure offerings, including the elimination of data ingress fees, following Microsoft Windows Azure’s lead. Those lower prices, in effect as of today, also come with three new 1-, 3- and 5-PB pricing tiers for outbound data transfer. Oh, and the Amazon CloudFront content delivery network is getting its own price cut.

The first 1 GB of outbound data transfer per month is still free, but AWS is now charging 12 cents per GB up to 10 TB per month, 9 cents for the next 40 TB, 7 cents for the next 100 TB and 5 cents for the following 350 TB, according to the official Amazon data transfer price update page. When users hit that 1 PB mark, Amazon Web Services will negotiate a price. The new Amazon CloudFront pricing is along similar lines, but across several more tiers.

AWS may have been one of the first in the IaaS marketplace. But it’s been facing cloud competition across the board from companies as diverse as Fujitsu and GoDaddy. Will this price cut give Amazon the edge for cloud ISVs?
