Data backup and disaster recovery company Actifio is working to build on its original offerings with an application-defined data platform to expand capabilities for application development and testing, cloud service and enterprise mobility. The new version also adds multi-tenancy, a hugely important feature for MSPs and CSPs.

Actifio said the new platform will assist with faster apps, clouds and deeper business resilency.

The company said Actifio 6.0 aims to provide businesses and integration with their infrastructure, enterprise apps and underlying databases for application-aware data management, self-service provisioning for development, on-demand test data creation for user acceptance and full app lifecycle protection. These new features have been made available through new platform capabilities: on-demand, self-service app development and dev/test workflows.

With regards to cloud, DevOps and dev/test services, backup/recovery and archive-as-a-service features enables cloud services providers (CSPs) to launch services from a single platform. Actifio said these capabilities will encourage cloud partner and channel partner programs to be able to work together.

The new platform also delivers application support across major business platforms, including Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, SAP, Oracle, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, and IBM iSeries.

Actifio Senior Director of Marketing Andrew Gilman told MSPmentor in a briefing that the company is diving much deeper into business resiliency applications.

"Actifio 6.0 is a dramatic platform expansion," he said. "We're bringing information management development into the 21st century by automating and virtualizing a lot of the steps that take so long today."

The company said Actifio 6.0 is expected to be available as a software upgrade for the Actifio copy data storage platform during the fourth quarter of 2013.
