Windows Azure Gets Facebook Developer Toolkit

Some Microsoft chatter: A post at the official Windows Azure blog indicates that the Toolkit for Facebook is now available, allowing Azure developers to build and deploy applications to the social platform quickly and easily. Here’s some perspective.

Here’s the list from the blog post of what the toolkit contains:

  • Facebook Developers Toolkit

  • Ninject 2.0 for Dependency Injection

  • ASP.NET MVC 2

  • Windows Azure Software Development Kit (February 2010)

  • AutoMapper

  • Windows Azure Toolkit – Simplified library for accessing Message Queues, Table Storage and SQL Azure

  • Automated build scripts for one-click deployment from TFS 2010 to Azure

To get started building these applications in Azure, prospective vendors will need a Facebook Developers Account, the IFrame Facebook application, an SQL Azure database, and a storage account in Windows Azure.

Even with these tools, there’s still the question of Facebook’s viability as a business application platform. Have any ISVs or VARs the audience successfully rolled a Facebook application? If so, and you want to tell us about it, drop me a line at matt (at) ninelivesmediainc.com.
