VMware Launches Horizon Application Manager 1.5
Virtualization giant VMware‘s (NYSE:VMW) Horizon Application Manager 1.5 is finally hitting the market after being announced more than a month ago. The platform unifies management of software as a service (SaaS), Web and Windows applications through the Horizon Application Catalog to deliver them to end users’ devices.
Application Manager works by centralizing and applying enterprise policies to application management. IT admins can standardize how, when and to whom they provide end-user applications and provides a cloud identity service layer for securing managed access to applications.
Features include Horizon Administrator, a Web-based platform for end-user and application management and application of IT policy and reporting, giving IT a birds-eye view of all application usage.
Policy Manager lets administrators define policies and tailor secure, controlled access for users and groups based on location, connectivity and device type, while Enterprise Connector supports end-user authentication and single-sign on through existing directory services.
The Workspace feature is designed to bring uniformity and familiarity to the same applications used across multiple end-user devices, with secure single sign-on access to applications from any device — a critical element if the policies of companies employing bring your own device (BYOD) are to be successful.
Horzion Application Manager 1.5, which is offered as a virtual appliance for vSphere and is available in both onsite and private cloud configurations, now includes support for VMware ThinApp, allowing virtualization and centralized management of Windows applications.
