Veeam: Virtualization Backup Gets Updated North America Partner Program

Bill Botti

Veeam, which develops backup and virtualization management software for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, has updated its North America ProPartner Program for VARs and resellers. The extremely timely move, led by VP Bill Botti, comes ahead of VMworld (Aug. 26-30, San Francisco) and Microsoft’s Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V launch (September 2012). Here’s the update.

Botti certainly knows his way around the channel. He joined Veeam in June 2012, and previously held top channel and executive leadership posts at Arrow ECS, FutureLink and Computer Networks Inc.

Even before Botti arrived, Veeam emerged as a widely popular solutions for protecting VMware and Hyper-V environments over the past few years, The VAR Guy believes. And the company is 100 percent channel driven, which eliminates potential channel conflict concerns. To build on that momentum, Veeam’s updated partner program includes “additional margin and incentive opportunities, free technical and sales training, as well as enhanced joint marketing support.”

High-Level Details

Among the partner program enhancements Veeam mentioned in a prepared statement:

  • Profitability: The new program offers increased margins based on partner tier levels, and additional profitability via deal registration and incentives for those eligible.

  • Training: Technical and sales enablement training, including accreditations through Veeam University, are available at no charge to Veeam ProPartners.

  • Marketing support: Veeam offers joint marketing activities including email campaigns, webinars, and other demand-generation events.

  • Technical support: Veeam offers direct, expedited access to support resources to support optimal customer care and partner technical inquiries.

Admittedly, that info is a bit generic so Veeam channel partners should check in with the software company for more detailed info.

Emerging Competition?

While Veeam is extremely popular among virtualization and storage management professionals, plenty of competition looms. For instance: Keep a close eye on Symantec Partner Engage, a channel partner conference in September. Symantec recently changed CEOs and new Channel Chief John Eldh is seeking to work even more closely with channel partners. Many of those partners are wondering how Backup Exec will evolve as part of that strategy… Surely, virtualization protection is a big opportunity on Symantec’s radar.

Still, Veeam and Botti aren’t standing still — as the updated North America channel partner program proves.
