Tech Data Adds Amazon Web Services, Expands Mobile Platform
Distributor Tech Data (NASDAQ: TECD) has added Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) Web Services (AWS) infrastructure platform to its cloud vendor portfolio under its TDCloud banner, offering services such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), AWS Storage Gateway, and Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) to its U.S.-based channel partners.
The agreement will fortify the distributor’s channel partners to monetize more cloud-related sales opportunities and, in turn, offers AWS the opportunity to widen its channel presence. AWS services will be available to Tech Data channel partners through the distributor’s StreamOne Solutions Store, as the distributor builds out its cloud offerings. Tech Data initiated the Solutions Store in the fall of 2011 to give cloud providers and ISVs a vehicle to market and sell services to the distributor’s channel partners while streamlining provisioning and billing through one integrated invoice.
Tech Data and AWS suggested that the arrangement was a win-win for both parties.
“Having many of the AWS services available on the Solutions Store enables our resellers to offer more complete cloud services and provide industry-leading, scalable cloud solutions to their customers,” said Stacy Nethercoat, Tech Data software product marketing vice president.
Terry Wise, AWS worldwide partner ecosystem director, offered that AWS supplies channel partners with compute, storage and database cloud infrastructure services that enables them to build and deliver solutions quicker and more cost effectively to their customers.
In September, Tech Data formalized its TDCloud initiative into a dedicated business unit tied to its StreamOne automated platform.
Expanded mobile platform
Tech Data also broadened its accessTD mobile platform — with which resellers can access product searches, get pricing and availability information, track orders and secure quotes — with new applications for Android-based devices, Windows Phone and Blackberry, adding to existing ones for Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad released last year.
The new accessTD apps are available to Tech Data channel partners in North America through the Apple and Android app stores and here for Blackberry and Windows Phone users.
