StorServer Adds VM Backup to Unlimited Capacity Licenses

Midmarket data backup solutions provider StorServer announced the addition of the company’s Virtual Machine Backup (VMB) licensing to its list of unlimited Capacity licenses, a suite of 11 software titles that offer a set of data protection capabilities for small businesses.

Capacity licensing is a bundle of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) and StorServer software products and services that offers simplified pricing and licensing with a per-terabyte metric, allowing organizations to install as many individual products as needed.

License charges are calculated by the amount of storage backed up or archived rather than the number of machines or applications licensed and there is no per-server, per-installation or processor value unit (PVU) charge. This means users are only charged for the terabyte that is stored in TSM primary storage pools and FastBack repositories.

Among the products included in the Capacity licensing offering are backup, restore and archive processing, and disaster recovery solutions TSM Extended Edition, TSM for Enterprise Resource Planning, TSM FastBack for Microsoft Exchange and TSM for Virtual Environments, which protects and provides recovery of VMware environments.

Primary benefits of the Capacity license include enhanced scalability with broad platform support, target-side and source-side data deduplication, support for virtual environment protection and management and centralized, online data protection for databases, mySAP/SAP R3 environments and email servers running IBM Lotus Domino or Microsoft Exchange.

Capacity licensing can provide a significant savings and flexibility for businesses with large numbers of machines and processors, and can help shift the burden of licensing from machines by processor or core to how many terabytes are under management by TSM.

The company offers a suite of enterprise backup appliances, plus software and services for IBM TSM customers that are aimed at solving the rising backup, archive and disaster recovery challenges many small businesses face.
