SpringSource, a VMware division specializing in Java application infrastructure and management, has acquired Rabbit Technologies, the UK-based provider of the open-source RabbitMQ messaging system. Here’s the scoop.

By integrating RabbitMQ into SpringSource’s own Spring Framework, according to the press release, cloud applications can route user requests to the appropriate resources and decrease the cost and complexity involved with deployment.

SpringSource is hoping its stable of developers will leverage RabbitMQ to transition existing applications from the datacenter to the public cloud. To that end, they’re keeping it open source.

Financial details on the acquisition are being kept under wraps. But there seem to be some synergies here: SpringSource gets another cloud application deployment tool to add to their portfolio, and Rabbit gets access to the resources of a company like VMware.
