The Spiceworks "2014 State of IT" survey highlighted the technology budget and adoption trends of IT professionals in North America and EMEA.
Spiceworks reported the majority of IT professionals expect their IT budgets to stay the same or decrease next year. The Spiceworks 2014 State of IT survey showed 58 percent of respondents do not expect their budgets to increase in 2015.
Researchers also found 60 percent of IT professionals do not expect their organization to hire additional IT staff next year.
Other survey results included:
83 percent of organizations with less than 20 employees support bring-your-own-device (BYOD), while 61 percent of companies with more than 500 employees support BYOD.
69 percent of North American respondents support BYOD, compared with 65 percent of EMEA IT professionals.
65 percent of IT professionals in North America are using cloud services versus 56 percent in EMEA.
61 percent of IT professionals are using cloud services today.
Of those who have deployed a cloud service, 80 percent are using web hosting, 58 percent have invested in email hosting and 51 percent have deployed a cloud-based productivity solution.
Online backup and recovery, productivity solutions and infrastructure hosting are the top cloud services IT professionals plan to start using in the next six months.
Kathryn Pribish, Spiceworks’ Voice of IT program manager, noted the survey results highlight the impact of BYOD and cloud services on today’s IT workforce.
“We’re finding that while companies are investing in technology solutions, they’re not committing to an equal investment in hiring the IT professionals who make sure technologies function properly and help employees get their jobs done,” Pribish said in a prepared statement.
Spiceworks’ survey was conducted in May 2014 and included 1,121 respondents from North America and EMEA.

Are more IT functions being outsourced?
More IT professionals could leverage managed service providers (MSPs) to save both time and money.
A May 2014 JDL Technologies survey showed IT executives are leveraging MSPs to better control their budgets and time.
Survey respondents cited three advantages to using MSPs:
73 percent said they believed the top benefit was reducing the need to hire additional IT staff.
68 percent indicated using an MSP enables their IT staff to become more productive.
61 percent said using an MSP offers access to greater technical expertise than what is available in-house.
